Seasons at a glance
🌟
Peak season: Jan, Feb, Dec
Pattaya's best weather by a wide margin: dry, sunny days and the lowest humidity of the year, with cool evenings from December into mid-February that can call for a light sweatshirt. It's also the busiest and priciest stretch, book Jomtien and Pattaya Beach hotels well ahead if visiting over the December to February window.
🌤️
Shoulder season: Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Nov
This tier spans two different halves of the year. March and April are still technically dry season, but the heat builds toward its yearly peak and pre-monsoon showers start creeping in. June and July sit within the monsoon's calmer middle, rain is frequent but rarely severe, and it's common to get long dry stretches even in the wettest months. November, right as the rainy season winds down, sees rainfall drop off fast, making it one of the more pleasant months despite technically still being inside the rainy season.
Off-peak season: Aug, Sep, Oct
The wettest stretch of the year, when September and October bring the heaviest rain totals and the most rain days, along with the year's highest humidity. Showers are usually short, heavy downpours rather than all-day washouts, and it's not unusual for the weather to stay decent for weeks even in August, but this is when hotel prices drop to their lowest of the year.
Good to know
✈️
Most visitors arrive via Bangkok's airport
Pattaya has no major airport of its own; nearly everyone connects through Suvarnabhumi (BKK), about 1.5 hours away by road. The smaller U-Tapao airport sits closer to the city but has far fewer routes.
☂️
Pattaya stays drier than Thailand's other coasts
The bulk of the southwest monsoon's rain gets released on Myanmar's west coast before it reaches here, so Pattaya sees noticeably less annual rainfall than islands like Ko Chang or Ko Samui.
🌃
Walking Street is the city's nightlife hub
A pedestrian strip of bars, clubs, and restaurants that comes alive after dark, it's the center of Pattaya's famously round-the-clock nightlife scene.
🏖️
Jomtien Beach is the quieter alternative
A few kilometers south of the main strip, Jomtien has calmer water and a more relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere than Pattaya Beach itself.
Top attractions
1
Sanctuary of Truth
A 105-meter wooden temple built without a single nail, part museum, part active workshop, with craftsmen still carving on site and cultural shows throughout the day.
2
Nong Nooch Tropical Garden
A 500-acre botanical park south of the city with cultural shows, elephant performances, and sprawling landscaped gardens best explored by bicycle.
3
Koh Larn (Coral Island)
A roughly 40-minute ferry ride from Bali Hai Pier, with clearer water and whiter sand than Pattaya's own beaches, a popular day trip away from the city.
