Seasons at a glance
🌟
Peak season: Jan, Feb, Dec
Goa's best stretch: hot, sunny days with virtually no rain and pleasant evenings, cool enough some nights for a light sweatshirt. December's weather closely matches January and February, though a cyclone can still theoretically reach the coast even this late in the year. This is also the busiest, priciest window for beach resorts.
🌤️
Shoulder season: Mar, Apr, May, Aug, Oct, Nov
This tier spans real variety. March, April, and May bring the pre-monsoon heat, still dry but intensely hot as the wet season approaches. October and November sit just after the monsoon, hot and occasionally reaching similar highs, with rain tapering off fast. August is deep in the monsoon but easing slightly from July's extremes.
Off-peak season: Jun, Jul, Sep
The heart of the southwest monsoon, when rain turns torrential, July alone averages nearly a meter. The sea turns rough and many beach facilities close for the season, with the sky staying overcast for days at a stretch. Hotel prices drop to their lowest point of the year to match.
Good to know
✈️
Goa now has two airports
Manohar International (Mopa), opened in 2023, has become the main gateway with around 23 destinations including Doha and Sharjah. The older Dabolim airport still handles a limited number of flights.
🌊
The monsoon shuts down much of the beach scene
Rough seas and dangerous currents during the rainy season lead many beach shacks, water sports operators, and shoreline restaurants to close for the season, typically reopening in October or November.
A distinct Portuguese-influenced culture
Nearly 450 years of Portuguese rule left Goa with a different cuisine, architecture, and pace of life than most of India, visible in its whitewashed churches, colonial-era mansions, and dishes like vindaloo and sorpotel.
🌀
Cyclone risk runs April to December
Direct hits are rare, the monsoon months (July to September) are largely spared, but Cyclone Tauktae struck Goa directly in May 2021, and distant cyclones can still bring heavy rain in October and November.
